Hi I'm Pam Eastwood. Monday is my programme day, when I play the best of Motown music between 10 and 11am, sprinkled with useful (yes it is!) trivia about the musicians, singers and writers. I love chatting to people on the wards and in the clinics to find out what kind of music is wanted. I know we can’t keep everyone happy all the time, but I’ll have a pretty good try! I was lucky to meet Johnnie
Walker at a book signing in Birmingham in 2007
I’ve worked in and around
radio for 35 years. My very first job on leaving school was a dream job for me,
in the record library, in those days called the gram library, at BBC Radio
Merseyside. It was only a 6 week temporary post, but I worked
on Reception every Sunday for the following 6 years. Amongst the people I
worked with at the Beeb were Billy Butler, Bob Azurdia, Dick Duckenfield, Nick
Clarke, Alistair McDonald, Janice Long, Phil Pinnington,
I got involved with the community radio in Halton in 1993 and whilst studying for the City & Guilds radio and journalism course linked to it, met the volunteers from Radio Halton, who at that time included John Seddon, Alan Lawrenson and Dave Case. We all enjoyed the practical and written work, thanks to our energetic tutor Colin Harvey and not only gained qualifications (C&G) but the course culminated in a 4 week broadcast of Halton FM. The studio was located in the old ladies’ toilet block (!) of the old college buildings at Simms Cross, where Widnes Asda now stands At the same time I joined the hospital radio team here and co-presented a programme called “Girls Talk”. Within a few years I was elected to the committee of Trustees and made responsible for the membership as Honorary Secretary (Honorary just means not paid for work done!). I manage the recruitment of new volunteers, arrange meetings and keep the minutes
From 1998-2000 I worked as a technical operator in Warrington for Wire FM’s sports shows on Saturdays and Sundays I enjoy listening to music of every kind, from classical to current chart hits, from the old crooners like Sinatra to modern bands like The Yeah Yous. If it has a catchy melody you can sing along to, then it’s in my good song book
